Why 'Numbers' Eventually Don't Count When You're Striving to Create Real and Lasting Impact

There's a conversation happening online that I think deserves a different perspective...
Every day, I see talented, mission driven people measuring their worth by numbers that were never designed to measure it. Follower counts. Like counts. View counts. Share counts. The obsession is real — and I understand where it comes from. These numbers are visible. They feel like feedback. And in a world that moves fast and rewards appearances, visible feedback can feel like the only feedback that counts.
But here's what I've observed after more than two decades of working with people who are genuinely changing lives:
Real impact doesn't always look impressive on a dashboard.
What Numbers Actually Measure
Numbers measure reach. Distribution. Visibility.
They tell you how many people saw something — not how many people were moved by it and there is a profound difference between those two things that gets lost in the noise every single day.
A post with 50.000 views can scroll right past someone without leaving a single trace. A single message, written with genuine care, sent directly, landing at exactly the right moment, can change the entire direction of someone's life.
Which one had more impact?
The answer is obvious. And yet, the metrics would tell you the opposite story...

Real Impact Is Often 'Invisible'
Real impact happens in places you'll never see on a screen.
It's in the quiet moment someone reads or hears your words and — for the first time — gives themselves permission to stop hiding who they truly are.
It's in the conversation someone has with themselves for weeks after they encountered your work, your presence, or your message. The kind of conversation that reorganizes everything.
It's in the decision someone finally makes, sometimes months or even years later (!), because something you said or shared became the permission slip they needed, to take that step (and I've received these kinds of confirmations quite some times...)
You can't 'count' that. You can't always 'screenshot' it (and you don't have to!!!). It doesn't appear in any analytics tool that exists... But it is, without question, the most powerful thing you could ever create 😇
Impact is not what happens 'in front of the camera'. It's what happens long after someone has closed their phone and sat with what you gave them.
The Difference Between Reach and Resonance
Reach is 'horizontal'. It moves wide.
Resonance is 'vertical'. It moves deep.
And depth is where lasting change actually happens.
I'm not saying reach doesn't matter — of course visibility matters, especially when you have something real to offer and the world genuinely needs it, but chasing reach at the expense of resonance is how you end up with large numbers and shallow impact. It's how you end up performing instead of connecting. And it's how you lose the thread of what you actually came here to do.
The people who are genuinely transforming lives — who have built communities that come back/ stay, keep lingering year after year, whose clients become advocates and whose work creates ripple effects they never expected — share something in common. They prioritize connection over performance. They speak to people, not at them and they trust that the right message, reaching the right person, at the right moment, is worth more than a thousand views from people who will forget it by tomorrow.

You're Not 'Small' — You're Precise
If you're someone who feels behind because your numbers aren't where the online world says they should be, I want to say something to you directly:
Precision is not 'smallness'.
The one who speaks directly to the exact individual who needs to hear it — who creates something so specific, so deeply aligned, so genuinely themselves that it changes a life — is doing something that viral content rarely achieves. That's not a consolation prize. That's the actual goal.
I've carried the vision behind my work for over twenty years. Not because the numbers gave me permission to. Not because the algorithm approved. Because a mission doesn't wait for external validation. It asks you to show up — consistently, authentically, precisely — and trust that what is meant to find the right people, will find them.
And the impact I've witnessed in people over these years — the shifts, the openings, the moments of genuine recognition, the lives that moved in a new direction — none of that ever showed up in a follower count.
The Real Question to Ask Yourself
Instead of asking "how many people saw this?" — ask yourself:
Did this land where it needed to?
Did it reach someone who needed to hear it? Did it say something true — something you would stand behind, even if no one was watching? Did it reflect who you actually are, not who you think you're supposed to be?
Those questions will lead you somewhere that numbers never can. And the answers, over time, build something that no algorithm can give you: a body of work you believe in, stand behind and a community that genuinely trusts you.
That's what real impact looks like. And it is worth every bit of the patience it takes to build it.

Ready to reconnect with your actual mission?
If this resonated, if you're someone who feels the pull of something deeper but hasn't yet given it full permission, I'd love to have a real conversation with you.
Not about your numbers. About your actual vision.
